About This Wine

92 POINTS

Wine Spectator | James Laube | June 15, 2009
"Ultrarich and concentrated, delivering plush blackberry, currant, black cherry and spicy anise flavors that are pure, focused and full-bodied, with a long, persistent finish that ends with a supple texture. Best from 2011 through 2017."

94 POINTS

Wine Enthusiast | Steve Heimoff | March 2010
"The structure and pedigree of this fine wine are immediately apparent. It hits the mouth with a wonderful balance of ripe fruit, fine tannins, firm acidity and perfectly integrated oak. The deep flavors of blackberry jam spread onto buttered toast, and drizzled with anise liqueur and melted chocolate are irresistible..."
Wine Profile
Vintage: 2006
Varietal: Oroppas

86% Cabernet Sauvignon
9% Merlot
3% Cabernet Franc
2% Petite Verdot
Appellation: Napa Valley
Harvest Date: September – October, 2006
Bottling Date: June 2008
Alcohol %: 14.8%
Tasting Notes: The 2006 growing season started out slowly with higher than average rainfall from January into spring, which provided much needed soil moisture during the growing season. Cool, wet weather in spring contributed to a later than normal bud break, but warm summer months kept harvest on track by gradually advancing fruit maturity and ripeness in the vineyard. The last two weeks of October provided just enough sun to ripen the last few vineyards, and harvest progressed perfectly. Hillside Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards on Diamond and Howell Mountain, as well as Mount Veeder, contributed to the blend along with valley floor fruit from Rutherford and St. Helena.
Winemaker Notes: Rich and concentrated, this wine opens with aromas of black plum, vanilla, brown sugar and cinnamon. On the palate, flavors of black currant, roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate are wrapped in velvety tannins. Notes of dark chocolate and raspberry jam lead to a long finish. Cabernet Franc and Petite Verdot were blended in to enhance the structure and mid-palate weight. Each lot was aged separately in 75percent new French oak for nineteen months, and blended together before bottling.
