Italy Trip - Day 5: The Magic of Siena

We awake early today and decide to take a walk through the vineyard. The heat of the day is not yet upon us, and it is pleasant in the rows of green and herbal vines. We make our way up the hill to the Castello through the olive orchard, that is fragrant with herbal smells and the rising sun.

We board our motor-coach to Siena. After the hour long trip we exit to see the church for Saint Catherine to view the art and the relics. Then we walk through the medieval town walls to the central Piazza, the Duomo, and the government center. At the museum, we see wonderful frescos dating back to the 14th century depicting life of the Sienise. Our tour guide tells us of the art and historical significance of all architecture and art along the way.

We break for lunch and enjoy a Brunello (a local Sangiovese clone) with parpardelle with fungi and blueberries. I would have never thought of blue berries and mushrooms together, but it works wonderfully.

We have the afternoon off to walk the streets and see the sights of Siena. After returning to the Castello, we retire to the pool, then to a dinner of fresh fish, more Gabbiano wines, and luscious desserts.

I am sorry that tomorrow is our last day!

Ciao!
