Giancarlo Roman

Winemaker, Castello di Gabbiano

Giancarlo Roman was born in 1945 in the village of Sussegana, Treviso province (Veneto region), and has been residing in Tuscany since 1970. He graduated in 1967 from the prestigious Conegliano Institute in Veneto province with a degree in Enology and Viticulture.

Giancarlo Roman creates wines that reflect the uniqueness of the region.

Giancarlo has worked in Tuscany for nearly 30 years and has been associated with Castello di Gabbiano from 1990 to the present. Initially charged with overseeing the preparation of all of the castello's wines, he now supervises the entire winemaking operation.

Giancarlo's winemaking philosophy and goal at Castello di Gabbiano is to maximize the quality in the vineyards and to produce wines that speak of their origins.

From 1973 to 1998 Giancarlo worked at the Cantina Sociale Le Chiantigiane, a well-regarded consortium that blends and finishes wines from the leading cooperatives in Chianti. During the same period he was a consultant to wineries associated with Le Chiantigiane, shaping these wines from the vineyard to the finished product.

From 1996-2001, Giancarlo was President of the Italian Enologist Association for the district of Tuscany.
