Criminally intense vanilla aromatics are balanced with ripe raspberry and plum fruits. Full and round bright-red wine with crimson hues give way to subtle sweetness on the palate.

Nineteen crimes turned criminal into colonists. Upon conviction, British rogues, guilty of at least one of the 19 crimes, were sentenced to live in Australia, rather than death. This punishment by ‘transportation’ began in 1788, and many of the lawless died at sea. For the rough-hewn prisoners who made it to shore, a new world awaited. As pioneers in a frontier penal colony, they forged a new country and new lives, brick by brick. This wine is borne of the rules they broke and the culture they built. And like our legendary rogues, it’s a taste that’ll live forever in infamy.

Tasting Notes

This full and round bright-red wine with crimson hues give way to a subtle sweetness on the palate. The criminally intense vanilla aromatics are balanced with ripe raspberry and plum fruits. The vanilla aromatics carry through on the palate and complement subtle flavors of raspberries, dark plums and chocolate. Red berry fruit and plush tannins provide a lingering finish perfect for any evening.

Vintage Conditions

A warm, dry spring resulted in slightly reduced yields, however the vines adapted well. Rains in January caused little damage and provided much-need-ed water following a dry start to the season. The following cool, dry February weather, and warm conditions in early March, created ideal conditions for steady, even ripening. Overall, 2016 was considered an exceptional vintage producing wines full of flavor, balanced with natural acidity and ripe tannins.
