Named after Amparo Grange, the lady of the Stags’ Leap Estate from 1941 to 1955, this wine embodies her style of elegance and gracious living. As part of the Rhone-style wines for which the estate is renowned, this dry Grenache Rosé benefits from the classical standard of viticulture, care of the land, and winemaking that is as relevant today as it was in 1893 when Stags' Leap Winery celebrated its first vintage.
With brilliant rose petal pink and blue hues, this Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre Rosé is classically dry and refreshingly crisp. Mouthwatering, juicy flavors of fresh strawberry, cranberry, watermelon, pomegranate, cherry and raspberry are utterly pleasing with a hint of spice. The bright acidity lasts throughout the wine’s length and finish, making it an ideal pairing alongside an assortment of dishes.
A blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre, the majority of the blend comes from the Frediani Vineyard, located in Calistoga. Based in the northernmost part of Napa Valley, this warm region vineyard consistently produces some of the most refined Grenache grapes Winemaker Christophe Paubert has ever tasted. A smaller portion of Grenache also comes from the Gamble Ranch Vineyard, located mid-valley in Oakville. The Syrah comes from Oak Knoll, just south of the winery, and the Mourvedre is from Stanton Vineyards in St. Helena.
Despite drought conditions, the 2014 vintage proved to be ideal, with excellent quality reminiscent of 2012 and 2013. The winter was one of the driest on record in California, but substantial rains in early spring were timely and set up the vines for a strong start. Summer temperatures were milder than expected with no extremes, and after early budbreak and veraison, harvest was unusually early in 2014.
After a 24-hour maceration period designed to extract color and flavor from the freshly-harvested grapes, the juice was gently “bled” off the skins. Fermentation followed in neutral oak barrels to capture the varietal’s natural acidity and delicate fruit flavors. The young wine was racked off the lees immediately after fermentation to preserve its freshness and aged for 3 months in neutral oak.
