Named after Amparo Grange, the lady of the Stags’ Leap Estate from 1941 to 1955, this wine embodies her style of elegance and gracious living. As part of the Rhone-style wines for which the estate is renowned, this dry Grenache Rosé benefits from the classical standard of viticulture, care of the land, and winemaking that is as relevant today as it was in 1893 when Stags' Leap Winery celebrated its first vintage.
A lovely shade of vibrant rose petal pink, this bone-dry rosé has lively flavors and aromas of grapefruit, fresh strawberry, watermelon, and raspberry. All supported by refreshing acidity that underscores the juicy, fruit-driven palate. As you sip, flavors of grapefruit, red berries, rose water and citrus blossom come through mid-palate adding complexity to this refreshing, utterly mouth-pleasing warm weather wine. Finishing with flavors of pure raspberry and lemon sorbet, with just a hint of pithy orange peel alongside a beautiful silky texture, this rosé leaves a lasting impression enticing you to come back for another mouthwatering sip. Perfect to pair with a light summer fruit salad or Mediterranean dishes like bay scallops and ceviche.
Made from 85% Grenache, with the majority of the fruit coming from Gamble Ranch Vineyard, located mid-valley in Oakville. Originating from the Rector Creek alluvial fan near Oakville, the rocky soil of this vineyard produces Grenache grapes of wonderful intensity, ideal for our rosé. The remaining portion of Grenache comes from the Frediani Vineyard, located in Calistoga. Based in the northernmost part of Napa Valley, this warm region vineyard consistently produces some of the most refined Grenache grapes that Winemaker Christophe Paubert has ever tasted. A small percentage of Syrah is sourced from Three Hills Vineyard in Oak Knoll and is blended in to help round out the complexity of the wine.
Overall, 2017 proved to be a very memorable vintage with slightly smaller yields but exceptional quality. After much needed rainfall in the winter months ended the drought, a brief period of warmer than usual temperatures occurred during Labor Day weekend which accelerated the harvest in some areas but was perfect for ripening the fruit in the Napa Valley. Temperatures subsided just when we needed and the fruit was allowed to mature and ripen perfectly on the vines before harvest officially began in mid-August. 2017 will be remembered as an intense and unpredictable harvest but one of tremendous quality, with wines showing great flavor intensity, perfect ripening and maturity, lovely balance and complexity.
After a 24-hour maceration period designed to extract color and flavor from the freshly-harvested grapes, the juice was gently “bled” off the skins in a traditional saignée method of rosé winemaking. Fermentation followed in neutral oak barrels to capture the varietal’s natural acidity and delicate fruit flavors. The young wine was racked off the lees immediately after fermentation to preserve its freshness and aged for three months in neutral oak barrels.
