Winemaker Christophe Paubert

Each year, winemaker Christophe Paubert finds an amusing surprise – a varietal enhanced through exceptional terroir and the unique weather of the growing season.  The cooler vintage of 2010 marked the inaugural bottling of Winemaker’s Muse, and Christophe found the season exceptional for Syrah.

Tasting Notes

A vibrant purple color is the first telltale to this inviting, approachable wine. The 2010 Winemaker’s Muse offers a harmonious blend of dark and stone fruit aromas that are layered with wonderful floral notes, and a hint of brown spice. Juicy and fruit forward on the palate, bright notes of strawberry, cranberry and cherry are rounded out by slight hints of mild pepper on the finish. The light and soft tannins add incredible texture and length to this smooth and elegant wine.

Vintage Notes

The 2010 growing season was long and mild with ideal temperatures for perfect development of Syrah and preservation of the varietal’s typical spicy aromatics.  Rainfall returned to Napa Valley after three dry years, lengthening each stage of growth -- bud break, flowering and fruit-set -- by nearly two weeks. The relatively cool growing season coupled with the unexpected heat spikes in late summer made for a shortened harvest, but the resulting lower yields of wine were concentrated, elegant and structured.
