Tasting Notes

Each year, our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon creates an expressive snapshot of the vintage and the region. In 2013, conditions were warm and dry and the wine shows a full-bodied ripeness, with mature tannins and intense flavors. The strength of the vintage is immediately noticeable by deep purple color, followed by heady black cherry, boysenberry and sage. Extensive oak aging bestowed lovely barrel spices with distinctive cedar and clove highlights. The wine is rich and decadent, with the perfect poise of aromas and flavors. A wood-fired roast would be an excellent pairing, the cedar-smokiness complementing the purity of fruit in the glass.

Vineyard Notes

Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley has a distinguished reputation for its exceptionally sublime character. With the perfect combination of topography, geology and climate, the varietal achieves a level of ripeness and a balance of tannins truly unique to the region. To capture that allure, we sourced our grapes from several vineyards throughout the valley, including many of our heritage sites such as Diamond Mountain Ranch, Bear Flats and Tamagni Vineyard.

Vintage Notes

Nearly ideal, 2013 started with an early spring and consistent temperatures throughout the summer. Like the year prior, it was fairly dry, which produced lower yields and smaller berries.

Winemaking Notes

To create an expressive Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, we brought together grapes from several vineyards. We kept each vineyard lot separate from harvest through aging, which allowed us to tailor our winemaking decisions to the unique locations and pull forward the distinctive personalities. After each lot was aged for 15 months in oak barrels, we tasted through the batches and created a well-balanced blend that best captured the beauty of Napa Valley as a whole.
