The 2016 growing season was marked by an early harvest with normal yields and exceptional quality. The consistent and smooth growing season followed welcome winter rains that helped ease California’s persistent drought. The condition of the fruit coming into the winery at harvest was excellent with grapes reaching optimum ripeness and spectacular flavor.
The Sterling Vintner’s Collection Pinot Grigio opens with vivid citrus, floral blossom and green apple aromas. The wine offers a rich texture on the palate with flavors of preserved lemon, pear and subtle spice. The flavorful and quenching wine is easy to sip alongside many different dishes including spicy Thai, creamy pastas or fresh salads.
Outstanding vineyard sources are the foundation for this wine. Carefully selected fruit from premier vineyards throughout California allow the winemaker to craft the best expression of fine Pinot Grigio. Central California, where the majority of this Pinot Grigio is sourced, offers incredible growing conditions including long, warm days tempered by cool evenings.
The Pinot Grigio grapes were picked in the cool hours of the early morning and brought directly into the winery and sent to press. The grapes were fermented in predominately stainless steel to retain the crisp fruit-forward flavors of the varietal. The wine is fermented quickly, bottled early and is best enjoyed well-chilled in its youth.
